Being influenced by FazDude FazDude ’s SSB Reboot thread and videos on an SSB6 sequel, I want to make similar thread that has a slightly expanded roster.

Rules:
  • Please be respectful to others! Debate is welcome, but please keep it civil.
  • While this will be a direct sequel to Ultimate with a reduced roster, I encourage you to submit the characters/content YOU want, not just the ones you think would be most marketable.
  • Non-Videogame content will be excluded.

Instead of going with something expected, I’ll nominate the Ice Climbers as we might not have many obscure fighters in this entry, and the double team gimmick is cool.

Job 2: Submit a gameplay feature that was not present in Ultimate.
While this was in a past game, I think that Custom Moves would a good way to add something fresh to this hypothetical sequel.

Job #01:
Character Name: Inkling
Character Origin: Splatoon (2015)

An obvious candidate to represent arguably Nintendo's biggest new IP of the last decade, Inkling was pretty much a foregone conclusion as to whether they'd make it into Ultimate - and likewise, they're a similarly obvious candidate for a reboot. I think it'd be nice to see them get a slight redesign to include elements from throughout the series, but their basic feel as seen in Ultimate would be a great starting point. Plus, their Ink mechanic is a fun resource to include!

Job #02:
An iconic mode from the Smash series' history, Break the Targets!/Target Test feels like an obvious inclusion to bring back. Given that this game would have a reduced roster, I'd go as far as to suggest that each character would have a unique Target Test stage akin to in Melee, which are designed specifically with that character's tools and strengths in mind.

Sonic
Feels like he should be here always from now on. could be a good chance to give him a reworking and better moveset.

Gameplay Feature:
Asssit Meter. A reworking of assist trophies. Players have a meter they can build up, which will allows them to summon a pre chosen assist character to fight for them or help out in some way.

There's a lot of moveset potential you can do with the Wario Land series which pretty much hasn't got any love since 2008 in the Smash series.

Job 2: Smash Run
Would be fun to see and even throw in new enemies/mini bosses.

Bowser’s Castle feels inevitable, so I’ll nominate a Mario Party stage for variety. I nominated Space Land, where it would be a walkoff with a few platforms above. Sometimes, the Bowser Coin Beam will fire, damaging players who come into contact.

I’ll nominate the Nadhoyah Shrine. The layout would be like Pirate Ship without the storm or cannons.

Job 4: Nominate an idea for a collectable.
I’ll nominate the return of spirits, but they have descriptions added to them.

Returning Veterans

  1. Marth (As much as people **** on the Fire Emblem franchise for its percieved "overrepresentation", starting from scratch and touching Marth up here and there could be a great way to show some respect to it whilst keeping both Smash fans and FE fans happy.)
  2. Shulk (I think this one could be really interesting no matter how we handle it. Whether we keep the same overall moveset and just touch up other elements of his character like his alts, or reconsider what his entire moveset could look like, Shulk seems like he'd be fun to work with and a great inclusion regardless.)
  3. Olimar (This one makes a lot of sense, and I'd actually go as far as to say Olimar would be a pretty natural inclusion for something like this. Even that aside, Olimar's genuinely really unique moveset feels like it'd lend well to him coming back on its own.)
Game Modes
  1. Assist Meter (This one just seems like a lot of fun to conjure up some ideas for. Rethinking exactly how Assists work seems like it'd be really cool, and maybe having it work akin to something like Marvel vs. Capcom could be fun. I'd love to see a couple of deeper cuts here, honestly!)
  2. Custom Moves (Might be a slog to vote for what's coming back, but I think we're all in agreement that custom moves have a lot of potential when it's not just "move but fast" or "move but big". There's a lot of fun ways we could go about handling this, which all could be a lot of fun.)
  3. s
Job #03:
Stage Name: Airship Flotilla
Stage Origin: Super Mario Bros. 3 (1990)
Franchise: Super Mario

A stage inspired by the iconic Airships seen throughout the Super Mario franchise. Unlike Rainbow Cruise, this stage would instead scroll between a line of airships, roughly inspired by the levels seen in Super Mario Bros. 3, though with them featuring modern designs akin to those of the current-era games. There's a few different types of airships piloted and manned by a variety of Bowser's foot soldiers, but by far the largest of them all (and the starting one) is Bowser's Airship, which is conveniently also the one you'll stay on if you keep stage hazards off. As an additional bonus, the Koopalings will be reoccuring background cameos throughout the stage, again in reference to how you first fight all of them in airships in Super Mario Bros. 3.

Stage Name: Toronbo Shores
Stage Origin: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (1993)
Franchise: The Legend of Zelda

The shores of Koholint Island's south side, which Link washed up on following his ill-fated journey across the seas. I'd suggest, perhaps oddly, that this would be based on the appearance shown in the opening cinematic for the relatively recent Link's Awakening remake - featuring an anime-esque appearance. The shores themselves would be a walk-off on both sides with an overhanging platform in the middle made up of the wrecked components of Link's ship, and the background would feature Marin, Tarin, and some Octoroks as NPCs, plus a sight of Mabe Village in the distance. Of course, you can also see Mt. Tamaranch with the Wind Fish's egg atop it too.

Job #04: I'm going to go for something a little odd, and suggest that we'd introduce unlockable alternate costumes as a collectable. Each character would have some kind of model swap for their unlockable costume (some more than others, likely) which you could unlock by completing certain challenges. For instance, maybe if Event Matches came back, you could potentially have one where Mario battles an opponent on the Super Mario Maker stage, unlocking the Builder outfit after completing it. Every character should have, at minimum, one - just so nobody gets left out. You could easily go for some pretty unique picks here, though - whether you just go with pre-established costumes like Link getting the Hylian set, or you could go for some more inspired stuff, like maybe a retro-inspired Samus costume based on promotional art for Metroid.

Bowser's Castle
A pretty big request for a new Mario stage. Similar to the version of the stage seen in Smash Flash 2. Fight on two flat platforms with a swinging platform in the middle and spitting fire enemies and bullet bills that must be avoided.

320px-HWAoC_The_Battle_of_Hyrule_Field.png

Hyrule Field
A stage based on BOTW. the stage is set in an abandoned Bobokin camp on the grassy grounds of Hyrule Field with the corrupted Hyrule Castle in the background. It's a flat walk off stage with four platforms. The Blood Moon will sometimes appear and cause a few Bobokins to appear as damaging/damageable stage hazards. On rare occasions, a guardian will appear instead and wreak havoc.

I’m unsure how to approach this given the different nature between unlockable costumes and spirits/trophies, so I’ll set up a poll if unlockable costumes should be added in conjunction with Spirits/Trophies. This will determine if I should set up a second poll or to have a vote among three options.

Mario Stages
  1. Bowser's Castle (It might be obvious, but I'd say it makes a lot of sense.)
  2. Space Land (...how have we not had a Mario Party stage yet?)
  3. Flower Kingdom (Say what you will, but this could be cool. I like the Wonder Flower idea, too!)
Zelda Stages
  1. Hyrule Field (I love this - it really feels like a pretty logical BotW stage to include!)
  2. Sky Islands (This one's a lot of fun! I can't help but imagine there's a lot you could do with this.)
  3. Nadhoyah Shrine (Inventive, and I think this could work pretty interestingly.)
Job #05:
Stage Name: Jubilife Village
Stage Origin: Pokémon Legends: Arceus (2022)
Franchise: Pokémon

A stage set in the bustling streets of Jubilife Village, the biggest settlement in Hisui! Constructed by the Galaxy Expedition Team, the village has only been around for two years, but has already become a notable landmark of the region. You fight on Canala Avenue (the main major road), which is lined with houses on both sides that you can be launched into. Don't get launched into them too much, though, or the houses will collapse! Additionally, Galaxy Hall can be seen in the background, as well as some trainers and Pokémon from the region!

Stage Name: The Arena
Stage Origin: Kirby Super Star (1996)
Franchise: Kirby

The infamous arena where Kirby usually does battle with a variety of the world's most powerful adversaries, be they Whispy Woods, King Dedede, Kracko, Marx, or... a single Waddle Dee. The stage is set in a colosseum packed to the brim with Kirby enemies (who'll even fly hand-painted flags related to the characters on stage!), and is on a raised platform a little like Arena Ferox. In addition, the palm trees can act as platforms! What's arguably more notable is the appearance of various Kirby bosses in cameo roles in this stage's background, from Mr. Frosty to Dyna Blade (who'll appear at random). Otherwise, though, it's a fairly simple stage that doesn't have any particularly notable gimmicks.

Job #06:
Destruction Dance - Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix (An arrangement of music from Wrecking Crew, featured in Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix. I think this one is just a lot of fun, and seems as it's a near-inevitability that at some point Overworld - SMB will be submitted, I wanted to have some fun.)
Title - Mario Kart 64 on Club Circuit (An arrangement/remix of the title screen from Mario Kart 64 that was released as part of an album of club remixes that remained JP-exclusive. Hey, Nintendo's got a history of stuff like this, including this kinda stuff seems fun. Plus, this one's a banger too.)

Shoutout to the Ambassadors of Funk featuring M.C. Mario album, which I very nearly included here but felt it might also get a shoutout later down the line from some particularly dedicated Super Mario conosseiurs. Heh.

Sword Search on Koholint Island - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (I just really like this one. It's probably bias - the original Link's Awakening was the first Zelda game I actually ever completed - but I also love this arrangement, and I think it'd be really fun and to include as opposed to bombastic orchestra.)
Title Theme - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Re-Arranged Album (This one just sprung out as kind of weird and interesting, and it also fits with my decision to go for weird official soundtrack remix albums from the 90s. Plus, I like the vibe of a mix between techno and orchestral. It feels... weirdly prophetic.)

I know these are probably some weirder picks, but... I think it'd be nice to dive into Nintendo's history of actual releases here and there. Seems to me like it'd be a fun change of pace!

About time we finally get Kirby content that doesn't come from Sakurai's games.
(Modern Kirby hasn't gotten a single stage in the series)

Going around the park fighting at the different locations like the coaster and the parade.

Area Zero (Scarlet/Violet)
An aera located within a massive crater, this stage has you fighting on the upper and lower levels as well the depths.

Main stage hazards would be the Paradox Pokemon themselves, both past and future working together to attack fighters.

Monkey Mines (Donkey Kong Country)
Taking place in the caves of DK Island, the fighters find themselves throwing hands with each other on a long train consisting of minecarts barrelling down the unstable tracks at high-speed jumping over broken tracks becoming a chaotic ride.

Going through the mines, you would see Kremlings working and doing mining jobs as well enemies roaming in the background.

Metroid
images (28) (9).jpeg

Crateria (Metroid)
Something like the one from Smash Flash 2 but more expanded and having underground caves with acid rain appearing at random points damaging fighters.

(Also, Samus's gunship appears as a platform floating landing onto the stage)

Job #07:
Stage Name: Big Ape City
Stage Origin: Donkey Kong '94 (1994)
Franchise:
Donkey Kong

This stage would effectively be a big old King Kong reference, taking place on a pair of scaffolding-like window cleaning platforms that climb up one of the buildings whilst (classic) Donkey Kong can be seen stomping around on nearby buildings. When you get to the top, you'll find him and Jumpman in a battle! Be careful, though - whilst moving upward, barrels sometimes get tossed between the platforms. As an additional neat reference, you can see the dirigible featured in Big Ape City in Donkey Kong Land flying around in the background.

Stage Name: Phendrana Canyon
Stage Origin: Metroid Prime (2002)
Franchise: Metroid

A stage taking place on a variety of floating platforms within Phendrana Canyon, which rise and sink over time to change the layout of the stage itself. When launched into the side, the walls of the canyons allow you to tech, so you'll need to launch opponents either upward or downward to actually take a stock. You can also find Crystellites and a Baby Sheegoth in the background of the stage!

Job #08
Item Name: Mr. Saturn
Item Origin: EarthBound (1994)
Franchise: MOTHER

A throwable item that doesn't do much normally, but can absolutely decimate shields! He'll also walk around when not picked up, being able to push other items around in the process. Funnily enough, he'll honk whenever he hits something.

Item Name: Super Mushroom
Item Origin: Super Mario Bros. (1985)
Franchise: Super Mario

A consumable item that makes you grow in size for a short time when you interact with it. This also increases the character's attack power, jump height, falling speed, ground speed, and so forth whilst active. When active, it also pitches down the character's voicelines. Upon being spawned, it will begin to move right, though if it hits something, it'll turn left.

Mawkin Throne Room
A pretty important stage from Metroid Dread. The final stage infact. This stage takes place in the throne room of the games final boss, the leader of the Mawkin tribe, Raven Beak. throne room prominently features Raven Beak's throne, set between two massive Chozo Soldier statues; more statues stand around the room. Dark red banners embroidered with the Mawkin emblem hang over the stage. The room's walls are taken up by large windows that appear to be formed by a red Force Field, apart from he sides and top which are open. The stage is a pretty simple one, an open round area that players can be knocked off of. Raven Beak sits in the back to watch the fight. (though this could be disabled if we add)

Gangplank_Galleon.png

Gangplank Galleon
King K. Rool's pirate ship. This stage is a big, long platform with one pole that fighters can stand on. Walls are on either side of the main fighting area. The bow of the ship is slanted. The stern of the ship is raised. A black flag rises at the top of the main mast, just above a crow's nest. Cannon Balls will shoot at the stage. Krow will sometimes appear on the stage and attempt to scoop up fighters. If he doesn't make it back into our roster, K. Rool will sometimes cameo in his Kaptain form.

800px-Bobomb_-_MarioPartyStarRush.png

Bomb-Omb
Bob-ombs can be picked up by any player and thrown at opponents. When a Bob-omb is held by a player for a while, it will begin flashing red, and shortly after will explode in the welders hands. While it is flashing red, it will be more powerful than usual, but it is also close r to exploding. If a Bob-omb is not picked up, after a while, it will stand up and begin to walk back and forth on the platform it spawned on, turning around at edges. In this state, it will explode if it walks into a player.
SSBUSuperScope.png

Super Scope
a long-ranged weapon that the user can wield in order to not only increase their range, but their raw power too. If the player constantly taps the A button, they will fire a constant stream of small shots. Holding down the A button, however, charges the weapon, allowing for stronger and larger shots.

Gangplank Galleon, Phendrana Canyon, Yoshi’s Island, and Krazoa Palace are the next stages added.

Also, Tingle is our first assist.

Taken from the Golden Sun wiki, which in turn took it from Golden Sun
I’ll nominate Isaac to introduce a new series, and his Super Smash Flash 2 moveset is fun.

First-Party Newcomer
Newcomer Name: Sukapon
Newcomer Origin: Joy Mech Fight (1993)

A representative for something of a rarity - one of Nintendo's own actual fighting games! Sukapon's a comedy robot that's been repurposed for combat, so many of his attacks have strange properties and appearances - whether they be the Konnanirahen, Tondeker, Sukapon Roll, or other attacks entirely. Sukapon's actually been on the fans' radar for some time - in fact, Sukapon was the most requested "miscellaneous" character in the Japanese Smash 2 poll - and his recent reappearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate means more people are aware of this little guy than ever before! I think he'd be perfect for this.

Returning Pokéball Pokémon
I'm going to submit Snorlax (who's featured in every single Smash game so far in this role!) and Mimikyu (a big fan-favourite with a really fun design.)

Job 13: Mute City (F-ZERO)
mute.png

Stays the same except there's transitions between day, evening, and night referencing the original three tracks from SNES.

Job 14: Ultra Hand (Nintendo)
beforemario_dot_com_ultrahand_01.JPG

It would give the user an extra-long command grab that works on the ground and in the air and would allow the user to tether recover as well.
