Some insight into my choices (barring the ones already discussed on the thread):

As I don't have many ideas as to who could replace her, stays.
- Contemplated with the Dragon King model, but his series is unpopular in Japan.
As stated previously, I only kept as a placeholder slot (though they can be kept as is if you really want to). I’d actually cut them for their lack of historical relevance. As for who exactly, my top candidates are (in no specific order) Marina Liteyears, Lip, Mike Jones, Excitebiker, and a Wave Race or 1080 rep.
Though a unique moveset works better, as shown by the video linked above, I think Ayumi works well enough as a clone
can be easily interchanged for in Melee, as it doesn't make a big difference, especially since both will be in the next game.
May's moveset works like this, though some Pokéballs would cut/moved to her attacks to compensate.
I wanna toss fans a bone, so is moved to DLC in his stead. I suppose he can promote Mario Maker too.
Considered other Gen 5 reps like Victini, Snivy, ~~Bisharp my beloved~~, and others, but went for Zoroark, considering how it was pushed at the time and so that can reuse the model.
I don't dislike and don't mind keeping her, but it's practically impossible to keep her in Sm4sh without ZSS as a base, so Travis (reusing Ike's model) takes her place, also fulfilling Suda51's request; and hey, it worked fine for and and we probably wouldn't have any third parties without them.
- But if we're sticking with a Sega rep, then I'm all for adding Dr. Eggman, taking obvious inspiration from Bowser Jr., as I believe Sonic is worthy of another character (something I wasn't able to squeeze for the next game), and he gives us another villain :D. As great as it would be to have both ~~with how much I love them~~, I'm leaning more towards the former, though the latter still works well, so I'll leave this up to interpretation, same with other interchangeable picks...
  - Like and Tom Nook for example, though in this case, the moveset can remain the exact same.
Style Savvy is probably the biggest series missing and I'd say she works as a good enough joke character and replacement for , what with her disassociation with fighting and generally being out-of-place (though the same can be said for Ayumi).
- Still, with the lack of a retro/obscure character, choices from Melee like Lip, Excitebiker, etc. can be reconsidered.
As much as I'd like to trade for literally anyone else, but with how the Fighters Pass was decided, I'd at best end up with a different Three Houses rep or maybe Anna. I can understand why was added, even if Spring Man and Ribbon Girl are closer to series mascots.
- stays obviously, but my bias would be perfectly content with adding Slime instead. Similarly, remains (though another reason I brought up Eggman earlier is because he's the more iconic of the two), but other Final Fantasy characters are on the table if you really want to.
- I wouldn't rule out a second chance for Bayonetta, but whoever they axe for her is anyone's guess.

Oh, and on an extra note, I’d try to give every character retro (see the NES looking alts in SSF2) and low poly (N64/PS1/Dreamcast style) alts.
